This is a layover trip. Sinan and I booked a flight to Rio, the most affordable and time-wise suitable way was to fly over Morocco. So we booked the longest layover to enjoy Morocco.
We wanted to see Casablanca Cathedrale du Sacre Coeur (Casablanca Cathedrale) Hasan II Mosque, Medina, Sky 28 Bar at Kenzi Tower and some other bars and tapas places (Bar CasArt, Vertigo, Tikitapas Paellas and Tapas, The NewYorker Rooftop, Le Petit Rocher...).
Thanks to Royal Air Maroc, all of our flights delayed and we had very limited time in Casablanca. Especially our 3rd flight with this airline, which is the one from Rio de Janeiro to Casablanca, delayed a great deal. Apparently one of the technical issues that can happen in an airplane is that the Emergency Exit Gate can open by itself and the evacuation slide can also open by itself. They somehow managed to keep both under control and we took off with half airplane seats were empty with a sign says DO NOT USE and the other half was free sitting, which means everyone was having a seat where ever they wanted. it was a real chaos. The aircraft was too old, the crew was surprisingly rude and the whole experience was horrible on top of the massive delay. We were supposed to arrive in Casablanca at 11:30 and have entire day to see the city but of course it didn't happen. In fact we just had 2 hours to see the city. We stayed at Relax Airport Hotel, which has a free shuttle from the Airport (Mohammed V Airport) and took the train from the Airport Terminal 1 to Casa Port, which is the final stop in the city center.
Managed to see a part of Medina, Cathedrale at night with no lighting, Sky 28 Bar and Hassan 2 Mosque from far away. As it was a SATURDAY, the city was very busy and lively. People were a mixture of traditional and modern, women and children were out until late night enjoying themselves.
Is Casablanca nice? Definitely!
Is Casablanca safe? We felt quite safe and the people were friendly and warm.
Would we go to Casablanca again? Probably not, would try to see Marrakesh first.
